About the tour

Pompeii is one of the most famous historical sites in the world, and not since it was first excavated in the 1740s has there been such an exciting period of discoveries as now. While you can certainly explore the ruins of the Roman city independently, a knowledgeable guide can reveal what daily life was like 2,000 years ago by showing you how to read the ruins -- from the grooves in the road and the graffiti etched on the walls.

This tour will take you inside the homes of Pompeii's wealthiest city and through the quarters where enslaved people lived. You'll visit ancient bakeries and laundries and see the many fast food bars where the citizens of Pompeii could grab a quick bite.

An entirely new section of Pompeii is currently being excavated, and our licensed tour guides have access to various parts of it based on the days of the week. Instead of a rote tour sharing all the same anecdotes, you'll learn about what's being discovered and how it changes our understanding of history.

If it's a hot day, you can visit the center of Pompeii, then visit the Villa of the Mysteries just on the city's outskirts, entirely replanted with fig and pomegranate trees, and a vineyard, as it was in 79 AD.
