Five Days in Naples
January 27-31, 2026
This hybrid tour is ideal for independent travelers who would also like to discover Naples in the off-season, when we can move freely through the historic center and fully enjoy the incredible concentration of beautiful things to see and eat. The Renaissance in Naples is my scholarly area of expertise, and I look forward to sharing with you the lesser-known treasures of Naples.
Over 5 days, we’ll unfold the rich story of Naples, spanning 3,000 years. We'll explore subterranean Naples and the ancient Greek cisterns beneath the city, then visit the Treasury of San Gennaro, home to a collection of precious jewels larger than the Crown Jewels of Britain. We'll also see the Ipogeo Cristallini which was featured in Episode 17: The Theater of Life and Death in Naples.
Between exploring neighborhoods and historical sites, we'll enjoy pizza, ragù, and the city's amazing street food. The trip includes a trip to Herculaneum and Villa Oplontis, lesser-visited sites near Pompeii.
The first group meeting is late afternoon on January 27th and our last meeting is at 10 am on the 31st.

How it works
Join a small crew of curious, like-minded explorers for a five-day deep dive into one of Italy’s legendary cities—no cookie-cutter tours, just honest discovery and great company. Each day kicks off with an expert-guided walk that brings the city’s stories to life, followed by a gathering around the table for long, memorable lunches or dinners (four in total), where the conversation is as rich as the food.
There's no required hotel package; stay wherever suits your vibe and budget. If you want to stay in an Airbnb, I recommend the area around Piazza Amadeo. To stay right in the Centro Storico, I like Hotel Piazza Bellini or Santa Chiara Boutique Hotel. I will be staying at Atelier Ines.
Expect lots of walking, plenty of unscripted moments, and an immersive city experience you can’t get from guidebooks—perfect for anyone who wants to dig deeper, eat well, and connect with Italy (and new friends) along the way. Let me emphasize once again -- lots of walking. And yes, it will be cold, but the pizza will keep us happy and warm.
$2,800 per person, due on December 1st. $500 non-refundable deposit to secure your spot right now.
Includes all tours and entrance tickets, four shared meals, and transportation to and from Herculaneum/Oplontis.
